Moulds

Moulds and tooling are metal dies used to produce parts in series by injection, stamping or casting, made to measure for each product.

They are small, extremely heavy and expensive to replace: they concentrate several tonnes on a small base and carry machined surfaces with tolerances of hundredths of a millimetre, which tolerate neither impact nor corrosion. A spot of rust in the cavity can halt production until the tool is reground.
